Abstract
ABSTRACT
@EN Mulitple symmetric lipomatosis (MSL) is characterized by enlarging, painless fat deposits in the neck and upper trunk. MSL seems to be more frequent in contries around the Mediterranean Sea; it predominates in adult males, the pathogenesis of
MSL in
unknown. In vitro studies have revealed a specific defect in adrenergic stimulated lipolysis in lipomatous tissue; MSL thus appears to be a model of a primary defect of lipid mobilization in adipose tissue.
Here we present a case with MSL, who showed defect in adrenergic stimulated lipolysis. Lipolytic activity after noradrenaline infusion was measured by serial plasma free fatty acid level. The result was that normal peak of plasma free fatty acid
level
observed after noradrenaline infusion in control subject was not conspicuous in MSL patient and serial plasma free fatty acid levels were in the delayed and lower range than those of normal control.
So we used aminophylline 300mg p.o. daily as a therapeutic trial and we observed after 3 months of therapy, the size of lipoma was markedly decreased in the posterior neck, deltoid and abdomen (J Kor Soc Endocrinol 8:456~461, 1993).
